Emergency Mobile Service in remote areas where service is unreliable. In an emergency you are advised to stay where you are if you have a signal. Ofcom is working closely with mobile network operators and the emergency services to develop a service where emergency calls automatically 'roam' onto an available network if there is no coverage from a customer's own mobile service. This will provide added reassurance to consumers should they need to call 999 or 112. You can also contact emergency services by SMS text - useful if you have low battery or intermittent signal - but you need to register your phone first, see emergency SMS texts. Also see short video on YouTube about getting the best from your mobile in an emergency
Remember to take your torches< on winter walks when the daylight can soon dissappear in the afternoon
Health & Medication members are reminded of the importance of carrying with you details of any existing health problems and medication you may be taking, together with contact numbers, in case of emergency. The card should be carried in a clear plastic wallet in a top pocket of your rucksack; a luggage label makes an ideal case and can be quickly spotted when needed.
