*NB There is a cost for printing out maps and, from personal experience, please note that there are some limitations :

• that printing on home printers is NOT waterproof and needs to be encased in a waterproof map cover
• that the full map should be carried in your rucksack in case an alternate route needs to be found (or your single page blows away)
• check that grid references are printed in case of emergency.

Safety First!

Don't go out onto the mountains without checking the weather forecast either with the Met Office or MWIS 

Mobile Service in remote areas is unreliable. In an emergency you are advised to stay where you are if you have a signal. Ofcom is working closely with mobile network operators and the emergency services to develop a service where emergency calls automatically 'roam' onto an available network if there is no coverage from a customer's own mobile service. This will provide added reassurance to consumers should they need to call 999 or 112. You can also contact emergency services by SMS text - useful if you have low battery or intermittent signal - but you need to register your phone first, see emergency SMS texts

Remember to take your torches< on winter walks when the daylight can soon dissappear in the afternoon 

In Case of Emergency

we should like to remind members of the importance of carrying with you details of any existing health problems/medication you may be taking, together with contact numbers, in case of emergency. The card should be carried in a clear plastic wallet in a top pocket of your rucksack; a luggage label makes an ideal case and can be quickly spotted when needed.
